Separate a large PDF into useful parts
Choose one file per page to create a ZIP of individual PDFs, or choose a selected range to create one smaller document. Page numbers count from the first physical PDF page, including cover pages, even when the document’s printed numbering is different.
Separate a document into useful pieces
Split a packet into individual pages when each form needs a separate upload. To keep a chapter together, use the selected-range mode. PDF page numbers start at the first page in the file, including covers and contents pages.
Before you start
For a chapter spanning pages 4 to 9, enter 4-9 and choose one file with selected pages. To take the cover and conclusion, enter 1,12-14. Keep the original until you have opened the downloaded files.

Split PDF questions
Will every page become a separate file?
Only in the one-file-per-page mode. Select the range mode to keep your chosen pages together in one PDF.
Can I split a scanned PDF?
Yes. Splitting works with scanned pages as well as text-based PDFs. It does not recognize text or make scans editable.
Why are printed page numbers different?
A printed page label can start after a cover or use Roman numerals. Enter the physical page positions shown in the preview.
What happens to my files?
Files are private to your session or account. Free downloads expire after 2 hours; Pro downloads after 7 days. You can delete them sooner from your workspace.
