Take readable text out of a document
Download a plain text version with page labels. Select all pages or a range. If a page has little extractable text, the tool tries English OCR to recover text from its image.
Reuse the words without page formatting
Plain text is useful for searching, quoting or moving paragraphs into another application. It does not preserve fonts, columns, images or table formatting. Page labels help you trace extracted passages back to the source PDF.
Before you start
Plain text does not preserve the original layout, pictures or formatting. For a scan in another supported language, run OCR PDF with that language first. Multi-column reading order and recognition of names or numbers should be checked.

PDF to text questions
Does this keep the original layout?
No. TXT stores text, not PDF page geometry or styling. Use PDF to Word if you need a document editor, or page images if appearance matters.
What happens with scanned pages?
Pages with very little extractable text can use English OCR. For other supported languages, use OCR PDF first.
Is there a text extraction limit?
Extraction is bounded to about 20,000 characters per page and about 200,000 characters per task. Split very text-heavy files into sections when you need to check all their contents.
What happens to my files?
Files are private to your session or account. Free downloads expire after 2 hours; Pro downloads after 7 days. You can delete them sooner from your workspace.
