Make a scanned PDF searchable
Select the language that best matches the scan. FolioSprint supports English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian and Portuguese, with an English-and-Russian option. OCR renders the pages and adds recognized text to a new PDF.
Find text in scanned documents
OCR adds recognized text to rendered page images so a compatible reader can search or select it. It is useful for scanned letters and printed reports, but recognition can misread faint text, handwriting and unusual layouts. It does not recreate the source document’s editing structure.
Before you start
Recognition works best with upright, sharp scans. Handwriting, low contrast, unusual fonts and small print can cause errors. Verify critical names and numbers. The visual page remains an image; OCR does not turn the whole page into an editable Word layout.
How to use OCR PDF
- Check your scan
Use sharp, upright pages. Rotate sideways pages before starting recognition.
- Choose pages and language
Select the page range and the language closest to the document. English plus Russian is available for mixed text.
- Test the searchable copy
Search for known words and compare important recognized numbers with the visible scan.

Can I turn the result into editable Word text?
Yes. Run the searchable PDF through PDF to Word in editable mode. Review the recognized words and resulting paragraph layout.
Why are some characters wrong?
Blur, shadows, small print and similar character shapes can confuse recognition. Check names, dates, totals and reference numbers against the scan.
What happens to my files?
Files are private to your session or account. Free downloads expire after 2 hours; Pro downloads after 7 days. You can delete them sooner from your workspace.
