Choose editable text or a visual copy
Editable text mode extracts and reflows text into a Word document that you can revise. Appearance mode places rendered PDF pages into Word, preserving their visual arrangement while keeping the page contents as images.
Choose editability or visual fidelity
A PDF stores page positions rather than a word processor’s original paragraph structure. Editable mode is useful for reusing text but can change columns, tables and image placement. Appearance mode preserves the visible page as an image, so its text cannot be edited as ordinary Word paragraphs.
Before you start
Editable mode cannot guarantee the original columns, tables, typography or image placement. Appearance mode is useful for visual reference, but its text is not editable. For spreadsheet tables, use the dedicated PDF to Excel tool instead.
How to use PDF to Word
- Choose the PDF pages
Upload the PDF and select all pages or a useful range.
- Pick the output style
Editable text produces paragraphs you can change. Preserve appearance places page images into the Word document.
- Open the DOCX
Check the text, page breaks and layout in Word or another compatible editor before making changes.
PDF to Word questions
Can I edit text in appearance mode?
No. That mode inserts images of the PDF pages. Select Editable text when you need to change the words.
Does PDF to Word work with scanned pages?
Editable mode can use English OCR when there is no readable text. For another supported language, run OCR PDF first and review its text.
Will complex layouts be identical?
Editable mode does not guarantee identical formatting. If visual appearance matters more than editing, use the page-image mode.
What happens to my files?
Files are private to your session or account. Free downloads expire after 2 hours; Pro downloads after 7 days. You can delete them sooner from your workspace.
