Balance image size and visible quality

Choose JPG, PNG or WebP output and adjust quality for formats that use lossy compression. Lower quality can make photographs easier to upload or send. Multiple images are returned in a ZIP.

Reduce an attachment without changing dimensions

Image quality controls the tradeoff between file size and visual detail for lossy formats. It is not a guaranteed target-size control. For a stricter limit, reducing the pixel dimensions with Resize images can have a larger effect than repeatedly lowering quality.

Before you start

Quality affects JPG and WebP most directly; PNG output may stay comparatively large. The result can be larger than an already optimized original. Compare fine details and text before replacing your source image.

How to use Compress images

  1. Choose your images

Upload the photographs or screenshots you need to make smaller.

  2. Set format and quality

Try JPG or WebP for photographs. Lower the quality value for stronger lossy compression.

  3. Compare size and detail

Check the downloaded size and inspect text or faces. Keep the original if you may need a higher-quality copy.

Compress images questions

Can I compress to exactly 100 KB?

No exact size is guaranteed. Adjust quality and inspect the output. Reduce dimensions if it is still above the destination’s limit.

Does the quality slider affect PNG like JPG?

No. PNG uses lossless compression, so the JPEG-style quality setting is not a comparable file-size control. Consider JPG or WebP when appropriate.

Does this preserve transparency or animation?

This workflow produces RGB still images. Do not use it when transparency or an animated sequence must be retained.

What happens to my files?

Files are private to your session or account. Free downloads expire after 2 hours; Pro downloads after 7 days. You can delete them sooner from your workspace.
