PDF signatures, annotations and redaction do different jobs
Choose the right PDF operation for adding a signature, marking a passage, labeling a draft or permanently removing information.

Start with what the output needs to do
Adding something to a page and removing information from a file are different operations. Before choosing a tool, decide whether you want to identify a signer visually, explain a passage, label a version or remove information from the copy you will share.
The correct operation depends on that purpose. A rectangle that looks like redaction can still leave readable text underneath it.
A visual signature is a mark on a page
Sign PDF lets you type a signature or draw one, then place it on a chosen page. Check the downloaded result for legibility, placement and overlap with nearby text.
This workflow does not provide signer identity verification, requests to other signers, a signing audit trail or a certificate-backed digital signature. Confirm that a visual signature is suitable for the recipient’s process before using it.
An annotation adds context
Text notes, highlights and rectangles can make a review copy easier to understand. They add marks to the existing page; they do not rewrite the original paragraphs.
Choose a mark color that remains visible over the source. Inspect every annotated page and keep an unmarked original if you may need a clean version later.
A watermark labels a version
A short watermark such as DRAFT helps readers recognize the status of a document. It is a visible label, not an access restriction. Someone with the file can still read its unredacted contents.
Review dense pages to make sure the watermark does not interfere with small text or diagrams.
Redaction removes regions from the output
FolioSprint’s redaction process renders every page, removes the pixels in marked regions and rebuilds the document as an image-based PDF. It does not copy the original text layers, links or hidden page objects.
The tradeoff is that the output is no longer searchable and its fine detail is limited by rendering resolution. Mark every occurrence of the information and inspect the edges of each region in the final download. Removing one visible name does not automatically remove the same name elsewhere.
